With 2022 presenting a number of challenges for boards in the insurance sector with the ever-changing and increasing compliance demands in addition to the economic impact of Covid-19 and the Ukraine-Russia war. This series of webinars will explore regulatory expectations around some of the key insurance board topics including effective corporate governance, ESG matters, cybersecurity and the ICT framework.

Session 1 - Board effectiveness

In the light of the MFSA proposed Corporate Governance Code and the Solvency II – Pillar 2 expectations in relation to board performance, this session aims to share perspectives on factors impacting the overall effectiveness of an insurance board.

Session 2 - Environmental, social, and governance (ESG) issues

The discussion is aimed at raising awareness in relation to ESG issues, with a focus on their relevance to the insurance sphere – including a high-level analysis of applicable laws such as the Sustainable Finance Disclosures Regulation, and other developments on the horizon.

Session 3 - Cyber crime and cyber security

Wednesday 4th May 2022 – 10am to 11am

The MFSA Guidance on Technology Arrangement, ICT and Security Risk Management and Outsourcing arrangements has introduced new best practices to be implemented by the financial services sector. This session will provide insight on the prevalent forms of cyber crime and measures that may be taken to mitigate them.

Keith Cutajar is a specialist in Cyber-Security, Cybercrime, Digital Forensics and Cyber-Terrorism. He has worked on a variety of assignments over the years, while employed, and as a consultant in his personal capacity. Keith has read for a BSc(Hons) in IT at the University of Malta and an MSc in Information Security at the Royal Holloway College(University of London), with his dissertation titled as “A pro-active approach towards Cyber-Terrorism: Defining a policy document to assist decision-makers”. He is also a Court Expert in Digital Forensics, Cybercrime and Cyber-Terrorism at the Courts of Law in Malta as well as a frequent speaker at a number of presentations and training sessions in various prominent cyber-security conferences and training sessions at institutions both in Malta and abroad.

Session 4 - MFSA proposed Corporate Governance Code

The MFSA issued the proposed Corporate Governance Code for a second round of consultation.  The session will provide an overview of the key additional requirements to be introduced by this Code.
