New Employment Laws Implementing the Work Life Balance Directive

As announced in the media yesterday the 12^th of July 2022, the Government has just published a legal notice this morning (the 13^th) in order to implement the Work Life Balance Directive into Maltese law. This means that there are alterations to the rights of parental leave with the old regulations on Parental Leave being repealed, there are new rules on Paternal leave (what in our law used to be called childbirth leave) and a new entitlement called Carers Leave. More importantly, there are also rules on flexible working.

It is also important to note that these entitlements and changes are not the only ones that have to come into force as a matter of EU law, but there is also more to come.
