Ganado Advocates at IFSP annual conference 2019

The Institute of Financial Services Practitioners held its Annual conference earlier this week at the Xara Lodge under the working title of ‘Striking a Balance for Financial Services: between regulation and competitiveness’. Over 180 persons attended this annual event which brings together financial services practitioners, tax advisors, regulators, and tax authorities.
 
Four Partners of GANADO Advocates participated in different panel discussions during the day.
 
Leonard Bonello, partner heading the Fintech and Blockchain practice, joined a discussion on Malta’s approach to fintech. Stephen Attard, partner heading the firm’s Tax department, participated in a panel which addressed the Maltese international tax landscape as well as international and European tax developments over the past year and their effects on Malta. Andre Zerafa, partner heading the Investment Services and Funds practice, formed part of a panel discussing themes related to upholding Malta’s reputation, while Anthony Cremona, partner leading the Trusts and Foundations team, spoke about the impact of the RBO on structures involving both trusts and companies and provided an update on certain regulatory developments in this field. He also touched upon the risks of challenges to certain aspects of the RBO regime in the light of GDPR and fundamental human rights implications.
