Senior Associate Nicholas Micallef, from the Investment Services and Funds practice at Ganado Advocates, will be lecturing a course organised by the Malta Stock Exchange on the 21st and 22nd of November. The course is entitled ‘AIFMD – The Maltese Perspective’.

This course aims to demystify the Alternative Investment Fund Managers Directive (AIFMD) by providing practical insights into the Directive, the Maltese regulations aligned with it, and the structural and operational considerations for AIFMs. Covered topics include a general overview of the AIFMD, distinctions between lighter regime and full-scope AIFMs, details on full AIFMs such as initial capital/own funds, professional indemnity cover, and operational conditions.

The course also delves into depositary issues and responsibilities, notified AIFs, and an overview of relevant MFSA rules and regulations transposing the AIFMD. Additionally, it explores aspects related to EU AIFMs, including marketing, passporting, and pre-marketing.
