Gabriel DeBono is an Advocate at Ganado Advocates working within the firm’s Shipping department. He advises clients on various maritime law matters, specifically but not limited to ship sale and purchase, ship registration, incorporation of shipping companies and providing advice in connection with the EU’s Emission Trading System.

Prior to joining the Shipping department, Gabriel completed rotations in the firm’s Corporate and Asset Finance departments. Whilst working within the Corporate department he assisted clients on company incorporations, re-domiciliations, liquidations and M&A due diligence exercises whereas his time in the Asset Finance department involved the advising on various maritime and aviation law matters, assisting banks and other financial institutions in the financing of Maltese vessels, registration of mortgages and security interests and the registration and revocation of IDERAs over Maltese aircraft.

Gabriel holds a master’s degree in international maritime law from the International Maritime Law Institute. His dissertation, titled “Wreck Removal under the Malta Flag and its Impact on the Circular Blue Economy”, explored local and international legislation surrounding wreck removal and its implications for sustainable maritime practices.
