Gabriel DeBono is an Advocate at Ganado Advocates, currently working within the firm’s Asset Finance department. He advises clients on various maritime and aviation law matters, with a particular focus on assisting banks and financial institutions in the financing of Maltese-registered vessels. His work includes the registration of mortgages and security interests, as well as addressing other related legal and financing queries.
Prior to joining the Asset Finance department, Gabriel completed a rotation in the Corporate department, where he assisted clients on several matters, including company incorporations, continuations, M&A due diligence exercises, liquidations as well as advising clients on the more academic aspects of Maltese company law.
His first rotation was within the firm’s Shipping department, where he assisted clients with vessel registrations, sale and purchase transactions, mortgage registrations, amendments and discharges, MoA negotiations, incorporation of shipping companies, and the opening of EU ETS accounts. He also provided guidance on a wide array of maritime law queries received from clients worldwide.
Gabriel holds a Master’s degree in international maritime law from the International Maritime Law Institute. His dissertation, titled “Wreck Removal under the Malta Flag and its Impact on the Circular Blue Economy”, explored local and international legislation surrounding wreck removal and its implications for sustainable maritime practices.
