COVID-19: Measures to tackle non-essential travel between Malta and Gozo

As a further measure to tackle the spread of COVID-19, the Government of Malta has now issued Legal Notice 118 of 2020, i.e. the Mandatory Non-essential Travel between Malta and Gozo Order, 2020 – the contents of which shall come into force on 3 April 2020.

This legal notice limits travel between Malta and Gozo to the following (verbatim):

(a) persons who need to travel between Malta and Gozo for work;
(b) persons who need to travel to visit members of the family; and
(c) persons who need to travel between Malta and Gozo for medical reasons or to visit a member of the family who is hospitalised.

The travel between Malta and Gozo of commercial vehicles and merchandise is expressly excluded from the scope of this legal notice. Similarly, individuals travelling between Malta and Gozo for the purpose of returning to their ordinary residence shall not be affected by the restrictions set out in this legal notice.

The Superintendent of Public Health is afforded the discretion of increasing or reducing these travel restrictions as necessary.
