Record Number of Ships Registered in Malta During 2015

During year 2015, the Maltese Register of Shipping recorded a 14.3% growth, registering an increase of almost 8.3 million gross tonnage over the previous year. This amounted to a record figure of 66.2 million gross tonnage registered under the Merchant Shipping Act to date.

The Malta Flag Administration registered over 900 ships with a total gross tonnage of over 12 million during 2015, which has been described as a significant achievement for Malta.

In addition, the Malta Flag recorded a 10.8% increase in the registration of superyachts over 24m in length, making the Malta Register a world leader in superyachts registration with 501 superyachts flying the Maltese Flag by December 2015.
