Dr Nicholas Curmi participates in a post-EU Presidency conference organised by MFSA Published on September 7, 2017 The MFSA organised a half-day conference on the 5th of September aimed at discussing the financial services dossiers concluded and developed during the Maltese EU Presidency of January-June, 2017. The conference was addressed by Mr Silvio Schembri, the Parliamentary Secretary for Financial Services, Digital Economy and Innovation within the Office of the Prime Minister, followed by a keynote speech by the Presidency Advisor Chev. Fabrice Demarigny. Dr Nicholas Curmi, Senior Associate within GANADO Advocates’ Capital Markets practice, who was the Co-Chair of the Malta EU Council Presidency 2017 Working Party on the proposed EU STS Securitisation Regulation, participated in a panel discussion about the challenges and future impacts of the concluded financial services dossiers. Specifically, Dr Curmi spoke about the STS Securitisation/CRR legislation as an essential element in developing a fully functioning Capital Market Union by the end of 2019. The panel was further addressed by Dr Karen Xuereb (moderator), Dr Anton Bartolo, Ms Eileen Muscat and Mr Raniero Polidano, who were active members of the teams negotiating the other financial services files, mainly EuVeca/EuSef, money laundering and the risk reduction legislative packages developed by the EU.
